End of the Year Wrap Up

As the end of the Fall 2018 semester quickly approaches to a close, I can't help but ponder all the lessons I've learned throughout this time. In regards to this class specifically, I have learned a tremendous amount of information about the world of technology, particularly social media and its importance. While it may be common knowledge to know that the maintenance of one's social media profile is imperative to both current and future success, people may not realize that there is a lot more than meets the eye. Through this class, I learned to utilize tools that would pertain to both my personal and professional profiles on the Internet. For example, we learned a variety of Presentation tools that we can use for the next time we have an important presentation, we discovered new platforms to help us curate various content that pertain to our academic interests such as Flipboard , Paperli , etc. We also thoroughly researched an individual whose career was destroyed

Creating Your Own Websites

It's no doubt that creating your own website opens numerous opportunities for you as an individual. Whether your website is based on your business or a personal creative outlet like a blog, it acts as being a main part of your digital footprint. It's essentially your world in the technological universe. Of course, the first step to creating your own website is to find an appropriate host. This article  goes into further detail about the specific steps needed in order to develop a website. I really like how the article lays out the general aspects of a website such as establishing a proper domain name, the types of pages you want to have on your website, as well as even maintaining the information so that it stays current as much as possible. While establishing a website may seem intimidating, it really simplifies the process as much as possible, while still presenting the viewer with options (such as various host sites). Going off of choosing between the various website

Week 7 = Catch Up Week

Recently, several apps were discussed that allowed individuals to utilize the tool of virtual reality. This is just one additional aspect to the amazing world of technology as we know it today. One app, in particular, is called Space Needle .This app essentially uses the actual Space Needle landmark, and allows users to view the perspective that actually visiting the Space Needle offers via virtual reality. This feature is ideal for those who have a fear of heights (AKA me). Through this virtual reality technology, you don't even have to leave your bed to have the experience. Another app that utilizes virtual reality is Google Cardboard . This app allows users to use the lenses to view apps that are compatible with Google Cardboard in a virtual reality sense. The main idea behind this is that it is low cost and very simple to use, and quite literally uses a piece of cardboard as the lenses.  Another app that was mentioned is Elements 4D  . This app, available to both A

Digital Baggage: It Follows

If any of you are familiar with the horror movie It Follows  (I personally have never seen this movie), I'm sure the technological version would entail your digital baggage. Digital baggage, in more professional terms your digital profile, is something that extends past just the technological world. Even though this is a profile online, its effects resonate with your daily realistic life. To put it short, it literally follows you everywhere you go. It can affect your career, personal life, and the lives of your family and friends. This article  particularly showcases 6 reasons how employers seek the online profiles of their applicants and how it affects their overall application to the job. It offers specific regulations that people should abide by in order to not jeopardize the possibility of being accepted in their new position. The 6 key pieces of advice are: be mindful of inappropriate/provocative posts   lack of professionalism poorly demonstrated communicative sk

So You Want to Network?

It is an undeniable fact that the Internet is a vastly growing sensation. New websites are constantly being created, more content is being produced, and ultimately new businesses are being established and are thriving. The Internet is essentially an interminable world of opportunities with many great websites to take advantage of. One of the main platforms that has been used widely by both professionals and students alike is LinkedIn . Similar to other social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter, it is a platform that allows for networking between companies and people. However, LinkedIn is special in the sense that it enforces this networking through a professional manner (again, making it ideal for businesses to use). The layout of this site is very similar to Facebook in that you create a profile with your statistics inputted. You then have the option to incorporate your connections from your email onto the site or you can choose to find your connections based on your statistics.

Content Curation

When it comes to the Internet, there are endless possibilities. You can pretty much find every single thing you can ever think of, whether it'd be a traditional article, a video of your favorite celebrity, or even ideas for your next interior design project. The point is, no matter how simple or complex, there is bound to be something on the Internet about it. The content is quite grand, to say the very least. But what happens when you, as an author of some sort, run out of your own ideas? What happens when you feel like you've exhausted all possible ideas within a particular topic? The answer to that lies within content curators. Content curation is the exact process of finding related articles to the field of interest. It is such a helpful tool when trying to search for and organize material. There are several tools available that help with content curation, but one in particular that we discussed about in class is Paper.li . This particular type of content curation esse

Google: A World Within a World

It's with no question that Google is arguably the Internet's #1 most used tool. What started off as the original search engine destination is now the most popular and widely utilized aspect of the Internet. But over the years, Google expanded its properties from just being a search engine. Now, Google offers several services and tools all under the convenience of one place. Essentially, Google is literally its own world within the world of the Internet. One of the most utilized tools, both in academia and in the workplace, is Google Docs. If you aren't familiar with Google Docs, it's essentially the same exact thing as Microsoft Word. Additionally, Google also offers its own version of Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel. To further add to your convenience, all of documents are automatically saved as you progress within your work and they are stored in your own Google Drive. Through this, you can enable various sharing options (easy to share with fellow classmates and c
